Deep gratitude!
Yesterday was my 83rd birthday, and I’ve been reflecting on the significant people in my life. Today I want to honor all those who have walked beside me throughout those 83 years, the ones who’ve helped enrich, enliven, and shape my life.
Beloved family members. Classmates from elementary school through college. Teammates—football, basketball, volleyball, and handball. Political allies and comrades from the turbulent Sixties and Seventies and all the decades since. Fellow travelers from the More To Life Program. Brothers from my men’s groups. Former colleagues and co-workers. Neighbors past and present. Online connections. Parents of Gray’s friends and classmates. Jubilants, members of our faith community Jubilee! And more!
You welcomed me—not just the refined parts, but the flaws, the shortcomings, the shadows. Your unconditional acceptance provided a safe space for me to be vulnerable, shed old masks and beliefs, and step into my authentic self.
You stood with me in crisis and celebrated with me in joy. You helped me face hard truths and laughed with me even when times were challenging. We’ve danced, argued, dreamed, grieved, and grown together.
Our connections have been lifelines, mirrors, and catalysts. They’ve made my life immeasurably richer, deeper, and more meaningful. To each of you, thank you for being part of this journey. I carry you with me . . . always.

You sure are a significant person in my life. Glad to know you, sir!
